Family of Four Loses A Combined 487 lbs.

One daughter's journey inspires family to make lifestyle changes.

After Sarah Bentley decided to make lifestyle changes to improve her health and lose weight, her family followed in her footsteps. Sarah and her husband Dave found themselves eating out for every meal and making unhealthy choices, which resulted in Sarah’s weight reaching 280 lbs. and Dave hitting 347 lbs.

Sarah started with the Advocare’s 2040 Jumpstart program to lose weight. She also replaced her junk food with clean eating.

“I was sick and tired of being sick and tired, and I just had a mindset switch,” she says.

Seeing Sarah’s results, Dave joined in. “Her energy level, the way that she was eating and carrying herself; literally she inspired me to start,” Dave told PEOPLE.

Sarah inspired her parents, Debbie and Steve Hoffman, to change their lifestyle too. At the time, Debbie was 299 lbs. with rheumatoid arthritis and Steve was morbidly obese and pre-diabetic at 410 lbs.

Today they have lost a combined total of 487 lbs., and are featured in PEOPLE’s 2019 Half Their Size issue. They are enjoying their new, healthy lifestyle that has allowed them to do things they didn’t think were possible before.

“I got back the quality of life I never thought with rheumatoid arthritis that I would ever have again,” Debbie says. “I feel fantastic. I really do.”
